The son of a Cuban exile and a retired nurse, José Javier Rodríguez is a workers’ rights attorney who served in the Peace Corps and taught courses at both FIU’s College of Law and St. Thomas School of Law. José Javier has been a champion for Florida’s environment, small businesses, and working families in the legislature since 2012.
- Served in the state House from 2012 to 2016 before being elected to the state Senate
- Harvard Law School graduate who returned home to Miami to work as a legal aid lawyer, representing low-wage workers, tenants, and small businesses
- Served in the Peace Corps in Senegal, working as a business advisor and assistant to Senegal’s Ministry of Labor
